I'm an artist and photographer based in the Bucks County/Philadelphia County region of Pennsylvania, USA. I am the owner and creator of PetFotography, a fully functioning photography studio servicing pet guardians seeking professional, high quality photographic works of art of their beloved pets (& people, if you choose) Imagine what a great gift this would make for that special person in your life.
What makes my work unique, is not only my technical skills, instincts for golden composition and design, but most importantly, my ability to put my subjects at ease, resulting in amazing, intimate portraits showcasing the unique personality of your pet. I provide my clients with a fun and memorable experience during the photo shoot. And after post-production and editing, I am able to provide my clients with a beautiful slideshow providing an abundance of image choices for the final product. I create custom treasures you will be proud to display in your home, or gift to a loved one. These are true works of photographic art, created with love and meticulous attention to detail. Products available to my clients range from unframed quality professional prints, to ink-jet prints on rag board to archival prints on gallery wrapped canvas. I am also a professional portrait painter and make available to my clients, custom commissioned oil paintings on canvas, which I frame myself.
I have always been an artist; since I could hold a pencil in my hand as a tiny child. I have been drawing, painting and taking photographs all of my life. I began my formal art education as a youngster, studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London, England and earned my B.F.A. in Visual Communications at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.
I have over 20 years experience as a professional photographer. My early work began with street photography, with a focus on the vivid dynamics of people caught in their everyday activities. As a life-long animal lover, my interest evolved and I began photographing street dogs and cats during my residency in New York. I photographed in various cities locally, nationally as well as internationally, including Philadelphia, New York, Sedona, London, Paris, Vienna. My professional career evolved to special event photography, until I settled on my passion for photographing animals. My work has appeared in various exhibits, publications and as part of private collections. My solo exhibition of portraits of jazz musicians appeared at Ortlieb's Jazzhaus in Northern Liberties in Philadelphia (2000). I was recognized and published by the ASPCA in 2002. “Quantum Nature” a solo exhibit of my photography-based paintings was presented in Philadelphia by Shear Arts, Fine Art Consultants (March/April 2007).
My interest in animal photography led me to become a passionate advocate for rescue and adoption of all domesticated animals including dogs, cats and horses. My desire to help make a difference in my community has led me to partner with various like-minded organizations. I have photographed for countless organizations, including The Pennsylvania SPCA, The Women’s Humane Society, The Shelter Animal Project of Trenton, NJ and Wet Nose Rescue. Linda Torelli, Communications and Marketing Manager of the Pennsylvania SPCA had this to say about my work: "Susan helped engage people with our adoptable animals at the PSPCA through warm and beautiful photos of love and personality."
I am also an avid horseback rider and have worked with Pegasus, a non-profit organization in Philadelphia offering equine therapy for children and young adults with severe physical and mental challenges. I was stunned to tears the first time I saw a mother's reaction to her autistic 5 year old child's joyful response to the horse on which she was riding. I decided to start PetFotography because of my passion for photography & the desire to document the incredible human-animal bond I have witnesses and experienced first hand. I thrive on the personal satisfaction I derive from the artistic process of developing the concept & styling the shoot, working with various animals through the photographic session itself, the editing process & the joy of seeing the final printed photographs as unique works of art. Life is too short to postpone joy. Invite me to document the joy of your pets and celebrate them, creating a treasure to last a lifetime. Book your photo session today and see what it's all about.
